Allspice (pimento) Pimenta dioica
Pimento is a spice that resembles large smooth black pepper corns but these awesome flavor spheres are the dried unripe fruits of the Pimenta dioica trees. In the 1600s, the plant was called Allspice because it was thought to have a flavor profile of a combination of other spices. In the Caribbean, the berries are used in many dishes and leaves and bark are also used in smoking meats.
